Every Man Has a Weakness

"He is alone."

"Unguarded... Interesting."

"He is wandering the wilderness. He has been fasting for forty days. This is your opportunity."

"I will go to Him, alone. Seems like the honorable action."

"What will you do?"

"I will be more generous than He..."

"Generous?"

"He wanted me to serve dirt. I will not ask the same of Him. He will have to kneel, of course. But, I will give Him the kingdoms of the world. He will be my key advisor."

"He is the Designer... Made of matter from what I can see, but He is still the Designer none the less..."

"He is mortal! Mere matter! He is on my world! Those made in His image serve me! Not Him! This world serves my will, not His! Am I not generous!? He will kneel! And I will be generous!"

"I understand, my Master."

"He will kneel... He will. I am right! I will be patient. I will show every one, Heaven and earth, that the Designer cannot deny my offer. This is my destiny. He is so desperate now. He is starving. I know how weak flesh is. He will create for me at my will, all while believing this action is His will, for His benefit."

"I support you, and trust your word, as I always have, my King. May I go back to Rome?"

"He will bow before me this day."

"May I go?"

"This man will also worship me."

"May I go?"

"Go, and tell our brothers there that soon we will have our revenge... He is a man now, and every man has a weakness. Every man will die."

And what happened?

"Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.
Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."

But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."

Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over you,' and, 'In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone."

Jesus said to him, "It is written again, 'You shall not tempt the LORD your God.'
"Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me."

Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve." Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Matthew 4: 1-17.
